Important COVID-19 Update!

Sailing Camp is on this summer!  We are very fortunate that our camp has been given the go ahead, however, there are significant changes to scheduling and procedures which are outlined below.  Also, below please find the detailed new procedures.  Anyone who requests a refund will be given a full refund. If you will require a refund, please email kbrennfleck@mtnlakes.org.

1) Camp will run from Monday, July 6th – Friday, August 7th for five weeks.  The camp will run Monday – Thursday with Friday as a rain date.
2) Camp times will be 9 AM – 11 AM for the first session and 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM for the second session.  We apologize for the time change of sessions – we realize they may overlap with other summer activities, but this change was necessary to accommodate the beach social distancing and capacity requirements.
3) Only campers who have previously enrolled in sailing camp for at least one week will be allowed to sign up this year for camp.  This is because of the new social distancing rules which prohibit a counselor from being in the same sailboat as a camper.

For over 35 years, the Mountain Lakes Sailing Association (MLSA) has taught children to sail in a fun and safe environment. We offer a Learn to Sail Sunfish program on Island Beach for residents of Mountain Lakes and Boonton Township.  The camp runs Monday through Thursday in two sessions:  1:00-3:00pm and 3:30-5:30pm under the direction of Dr. Bob Fehon.

All children need to be at least eight years old, have passed the Borough’s beach test and possess a valid beach pass.  Campers without a boat can rent one for a small additional fee.

After they’ve learned to sail, MLSA can open doors at other summer sailing programs on Spruce Run Reservoir and Raritan Bay.  The Mountain Lakes High School has a fledgling sailing team that sails two-person FJ’s on Raritan Bay in a fall and spring season.  Lastly, former summer “campers” also go on to be hired as Counselors in the camp, gaining valuable work experience.

Sailing is a life-long sport and we hope you will embrace this unique opportunity that has been a vital part of a Mountain Lakes summer for generations!
